Wiimote Cabinet for Wii fanatics

Wiimote Cabinet image
A Go Nintendo reader by the name of Craig has one hell of a dad. After all, it takes a great dad to build a sweet looking Wiimote cabinet like this. I'm no carpenter but it doesn't look all that difficult to make from a design perspective. You could probably find something similar in your local furniture store. However, the detail work on the front is done quite well. I would love to have one of these in my apartment. It probably won't be all that popular with the ladies, but then again nerdy stuff never is. So who really gives a damn.

We're not exactly sure why folks aren't as inclined to create confections, earrings and door unlockers with those other controllers, but something about the Wiimote just brings out the craftsman in DIY'ers at large. This go 'round, Craig has constructed a functioning cabinet that closely resembles Nintendo's heralded controller. Unfortunately, we have all ideas that it won't actually enable you to participate in any Mario Party 8 mini-games, but considering that there's no wrist strap tacked on the bottom, we wouldn't recommend whirling this about, anyway.

New Adventures of Lara Croft on Wii

House of the Dead also on Wii?

House of the Dead Logo
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles has the coveted zombie-lightgun style arcade shooter for the Wii subgenre cornered, but Sega is looking to break Capcom's death grip on the market. Today, Sega announced that it is prepping The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return for the Wii.

As the name suggests, the game includes versions of The House of the Dead 2 and The House of the Dead III in one package. Players will be able to choose from six game modes, including the standard arcade and time attack options, and there will be single-player campaign and multiplayer modes for two players. This won't be the first time these two titles have been paired up; the 2002 Xbox release of The House of the Dead III also included an unlockable House of the Dead 2 for those who beat the game.

House of the Dead Pic

Sega has not specified what changes would be made to the original games, but it did say the game will use the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk (and be designed with the Wii Zapper in mind as well). No price point was announced, but Sega expects the game will ship in spring 2008.

Alone in the Dark also on Wii

Alone int the Dark LogoWhat with its lingering financial worries and loss of licenses, Atari is lot like a three-legged dog seen limping pitifully to the side of the road. We want to help, we do, but we've already got a perfectly good dog at home with all four legs intact. With so much hardship, it's evident that much of Atari's livelihood seems pinned on the success of the upcoming franchise reboot of Alone in the Dark, so it's unsurprising that the company has opted to release the survival horror title for the Wii and PS2 in addition to the previously announced versions in development for the Xbox 360, Playstation and PC.

Alone in the Dark on WiiThe long-delayed game, which marks the fifth title in the Alone in the Dark franchise, was first announced in 2005, and features a script penned by Sleepers author Lorenzo Carcaterra. Interestingly, however, while the earlier announced versions of the game are being developed by Test Drive Unlimited devs Eden, the Wii and PS2 duties have been handed off to French developer Hydravision, which has some survival horror chops themselves having dveleoped the Obsucre series of games. It's still anyone's guess when Alone in the Dark in any form will make it to retail, though considering that there hasn't been a decent title in the series since Edward Carnby's 1992 debut, we think we can wait.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Fire Emblem: Radiant DawnThis game is known also as Fire Emblem: Akatsuki no Megami in Japan. It is a tactical role-playing game for Wii. It was developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. Radiant Dawn is the tenth Fire Emblem series title and the first series title for the Wii. This game was officially released on February 22, 2007 in Japan, and released in North America on November 5, 2007. The game is a direct sequel to the events of the Nintendo GameCube title Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, featuring the same style of cel-shaded FMV cutscenes and an upgraded game engine.

Plot
"Three years have passed since the Daein-Crimea war, where the mercenary Ike led the Crimean army to defeat Daein's mad King Ashnard. Both Daein and Crimea are still stabilizing after that war. Daein is ruled by the begnion occupation forces, after Crimea reinquished rule over their defeated country, and they are oppressed by the imperial soldiers. In the first of the game's four parts, a group of chivalrous thieves, which includes fortune-teller Micaiah, fight Begnion's oppression and attempt to liberate Daein and bring back power to the royal family.

The efforts of the Dawn Brigade are the beginning of a much larger conflict. In the next part, Crimea's Queen Elincia fights against conspiring nobles, who plot to overthrow her. The following part sees the Greil mercenaries assist the united Laguz army as they go to war with the Begnion Empire. The consequences of this war can be seen in the fourth and final part, where the Dawn Brigade and the Greil mercenaries join forces to defeat the Begnion senate and the threatening goddess of chaos high above at the Guiding Tower." via wii-news.dcemu.co.uk

New Wii Gun - Wii Blaster

Wii Blaster
Unlike the official Nintendo Wii lightgun accessory that has the trigger up in the front hand—which is more awkward than Frankenstein dancing—the dreamGEAR Wii GameBlaster has only one trigger, and it's in the back. Also unlike the official gun, it takes in both the Wiimote and the Nunchuk controller and connects the two without visible wires. This actually looks better than the real thing, and if you can somehow reprogram the trigger button in-game to be on the Nunchuk instead of on the Wiimote, you've got yourself the optimal zombie shooting experience.

With the announcement of Resident Evil 4 and Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii, coupled with the still unreleased Virtual Console titles Duck Hunt and Hogan's Alley, it's time to start asking, "Where's the Wii Zapper?" Gamestop has listed the Wii Blaster for $20 and what we strongly believe to be a placeholder date of May 1. Although, this isn't necessarily the most improbable date with the Resident Evil games expected to have a summer release.

The Gamestop listing has no photo of the what the Zapper Blaster looks like now. The last time we saw her she was behind glass at E3 with a "work in progress" sign. We're really looking forward to having a gun, these first-person shooters just don't feel natural with a Wiimote. Now give us a game that allows for dual wielding Blasters and that's a guaranteed $50 going to that publisher!

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

Resident Evil Umbrella ChroniclesIn Japan, this game is also known as Biohazard: Umbrella Chronicles. It is the much awaited upcoming shooter game and the seventh installment of Capcom's Resident Evil series. The game is slated to be released on the following date and area:
November 13, 2007 - North America
November 15, 2007 - Japan
November 30, 2007 - Europe

Gameplay
Umbrella Chronicles is for those players who wanted more of Resident Evil game. There aren't any slow-moving adventure sections here, just full of shooting action. Unlike the Survivor game, the player is automatically guided through the games' multiple stages and assaulted by zombies at nearly every turn. The analog stick on the Nunchuk can be used to look around, used for camera view, but not move, this seems to be the Nunchuk's only function in the game. Pressing down on the remote's D-pad quickly switches between your available weapons like a pistol, shotgun and machine gun.

Umbrella Corp. isn't vanished yet

Since the graphics are generated in real-time, the game features destructible environments. You can freely shoot on the game, like pictures on walls, statues or other objects, which will break instantly and may even hide some extra weapons or ammunition. You can also shoot at the lights to darken the room, though that will make it even harder to see those fleshy zombie obstacle is coming up in front of you.

Game Plot
The game follows the story behind the downfall of the ever popular corporation in Resident Evil series, the Umbrella Corporation simply by revisiting scenarios from Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. It will conclude with an assault upon an Umbrella stronghold. The known playable characters include Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Rebecca Chambers, Billy Coen, Carlos Oliviera, Richard Aiken, Ada Wong, HUNK, and Albert Wesker.

Manhunt 2 Slammed From All Angles

Manhunt 2 LogoFollowing Take-Two’s admission that hackers had successfully unlocked Adults Only content supposedly cut from the M-rated version of Manhunt 2, California State Senator Leland Yee has called for the game to be reclassified again, while the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) has criticized the game for perpetuating “cruel, inaccurate perceptions that people who live with mental illnesses are violent.”

While multiple edits were made to revise Manhunt 2 so it would be granted a Mature rating (17+), hackers appear to have proven that the sections of the game in question were blocked but not entirely cut, allowing them to create a modified version of the title not meant for release.

Manhunt 2
“We hope that consumers will not engage in hacking or download illegally modified copies of our games. We encourage them to enjoy our games as they are meant to be played,” said Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick in a statement Thursday. However, as GamePolitics reports, Take-Two’s line of defense hasn’t been able to stop fresh waves of criticism."

“Not only should the AO rating immediately be reinstated on [Manhunt 2], the Federal Trade Commission should investigate Rockstar and the ESRB to determine how this was allowed to happen again,” said Senator Yee."

“Time and time again, the ESRB rating process fails parents. It is unconscionable that the rating board would downgrade Manhunt 2’s rating from AO to M and therefore make the game available to children. The ESRB and Rockstar continuously put profits before children."

“Parents deserve to know what, if any, content was truly removed to receive the downgraded rating. ESRB has refused to publicly disclose whether or not Rockstar divulged that such adult content could still be accessible. As if we needed more evidence, this episode further puts into question the validity of the entire rating system."

“The Manhunt 2 scandal further demonstrates the need for [California’s contested video game] law. I am hopeful that the courts will see that severe penalties are necessary for those who sell horrifically violent games to minors.”

Manhunt 2
The Gamer Gene also reports that NAMI’s executive director Mike Fitzpatrick issued a statement criticizing the title’s portrayal of the mentally ill.

“Even though some people may consider Manhunt 2 to be only a game, it unfortunately perpetuates and reinforces cruel, inaccurate perceptions that people who live with mental illnesses are violent."

“The U.S. Surgeon General has condemned such stigmatization, identifying fear of stigma as a major barrier to people getting help when they need it. The overall contribution of mental illnesses to violence in society is exceptionally small. In fact, people living with mental illness are far more likely to be victims of violence."

"We do not favor censorship, but we do ask for responsible exercise of creative rights when serious public health concerns are at issue. It is our right to demand a higher standard.”
